Hi-Flyer
About This Machine
The Hi-Flyer, manufactured by the Chicago Coin Machine Manufacturing Company in August 1974, is a two-player electro-mechanical game with an unusual hot air ballooning theme. It was designed by Wendell McAdams and Jerry Koci, with artwork by the prolific Christian Marche, and a four-player version of the same game was sold as Chicago Coin's 1974 'Sky Rider'.
Gameplay offers a classic mid-1970s EM mix: two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, a bank of four drop targets, and a spinning target, with an end-of-ball bonus rewarding accumulated points. Three chimes provide the game's soundtrack, ringing out as scores mount.
Marche's artwork brings the airborne theme to life, and the balloon motif gives the Hi-Flyer a lighthearted identity among Chicago Coin's mid-decade lineup. It remains a pleasant piece of pinball history for enthusiasts of the electro-mechanical era to discover and appreciate.
