About This Machine

Go Cart, produced by J. H. Keeney and Company of Chicago in May 1963, brings the then-popular recreation of go-cart racing to the pinball playfield. Designed by Ed Krynski, who would go on to become one of Gottlieb's most prolific designers, this single-player electro-mechanical game captures a slice of early-1960s leisure culture.

The machine offers a solid array of interactive components, including two flippers, three pop bumpers, five passive bumpers, two slingshots, six standup targets, and two rollover buttons. The maximum displayed point score is 1,999 points, and the replay wheel can register up to 47 replays.

A small quirk for trivia lovers: the backglass, instruction card, and reportedly even the manual and schematics show the name as "Go Cart" without a hyphen, while a period Billboard advertisement rendered it "Go-Cart." As a Keeney game from the company's final years in the pinball business, Go Cart is an interesting artifact of a lesser-known Chicago manufacturer.
