About This Machine

Gin Rummy, designed by Harry Mabs and manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in February 1949, is an early flipper-era electro-mechanical pinball machine with a confirmed production run of just 500 units. Mabs is the designer credited with introducing the flipper on Gottlieb's Humpty Dumpty in 1947, and Gin Rummy carries that lineage with a four-flipper layout accompanied by three kick-out holes.

As with many games of the immediate post-war period, the playfield is spare by later standards, with the kick-out holes and flipper placement defining the action. Its small production run makes it a scarce find for collectors of 1940s Gottlieb games.

The card-themed artwork by Roy Parker is typical of Gottlieb's style from this era, featuring playing cards and gambling-related imagery in keeping with its Cards/Gambling theme. As an early work of the flipper age from one of its pioneering designers, Gin Rummy remains an interesting piece of pinball history, offering a glimpse into the industry during its formative years.
