Zoo Keeper (set 1)
Taito America Corporation • 1982

Take on the role of Zeke the zookeeper in this fast-paced platformer for two players. The goal is to recapture escaped animals and rescue Zelda, Zeke's girlfriend, from their clutches. Gameplay alternates between two distinct play fields; one tasking you with repairing a crumbling animal enclosure while dodging loose creatures, and another requiring skillful jumps across moving platforms to reach Zelda who is held captive. A final bonus screen challenges players to navigate herds of charging animals on escalators. The first level involves rebuilding walls as animals escape and collecting bonuses like food items that appear along the fuse timer. The second play field presents a more challenging ascent, where coconuts thrown by a monkey must be avoided while collecting rewards and searching for a "Free Game" opportunity. Success in rescuing Zelda results in bonus points and increased difficulty upon restarting the game. Originally conceived as “King Crab,” Zoo Keeper showcases an early example of American-designed arcade gameplay from Taito.
