Zektor (revision B)
Sega • 1982

In Sega's Zektor, released in 1982, players pilot a spaceship tasked with liberating eight cities from robotic alien overlords. Each city requires navigating three distinct attack waves of enemy fighters and probes, many initially protected by energy shields that must be depleted through successive hits. Unique “Moboid” enemies further complicate matters; green Moboids spin the player's ship while deflecting projectiles, blue ones bounce all ships across the screen, and red Moboids destroy unprotected vessels. Upon clearing each city’s attack waves, a powerful Alien Robot emerges, guarded by rotating rings that must be skillfully maneuvered to deliver a precise “slot shot” for victory. Defeating an alien rewards the player with an extra ship and advancement to the next city. The game features distinctive vector graphics powered by Sega's G80 hardware and offers a challenging single-player experience. A curious detail: hidden letters are embedded within each of the eight cities, their meaning remaining a mystery speculated to be either designer initials or part of a coded message. A final boss encounter draws inspiration from Sega’s earlier game Space Fury, and after defeating it, the eighth round repeats endlessly.
