Yosaku to Donbei (set 1)
Wing • 1979

Players defend a tree from persistent crows in Yosaku to Donbei, a two-player shooter released by Wing in 1979. Taking on the roles of farmers, you use a simple control scheme to target and eliminate the birds descending in a pyramid formation. A large bird occasionally appears, mimicking the UFO encounters found in other games of the era. The gameplay shares similarities with Space Invaders, but offers a unique twist as a lumberjack periodically chops away at the tree itself, gradually lowering the birds’ position. This mechanic alters the challenge and demands careful aiming. The game presents a vertical screen displaying 224 x 240 pixels in a limited color palette. Yosaku to Donbei provides straightforward shooter action for up to two players, built around an Intel 8080 processor powering its engaging gameplay loop. The title translates from Japanese and arrived in arcades during October of 1979.
