Gameplay

Step into the squared circle with WWF WrestleFest, a four-player tag team brawler released in 1991 by Technos Japan under license from the World Wrestling Federation. Players choose from ten iconic wrestlers including Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, and Mr. Perfect to compete in either a tournament or the Royal Rumble match. Gameplay centers around classic wrestling maneuvers – punches, kicks, and signature moves triggered when an opponent’s energy is low—as you battle opponents across the ring. The game features both tag team matches where cooperative play is essential for victory and the chaotic free-for-all of the Royal Rumble, where wrestlers must be eliminated by being thrown over the top rope. While the game's depiction of wrestling rules isn’t entirely accurate to professional standards of the time, it still captures the excitement and larger-than-life personalities that defined WWF in the early 1990s. The US version includes a "Winners Don't Use Drugs" screen, reflecting an era of public health messaging within entertainment.
