Pro Tennis World Court (Japan)
Namco • 1988

Namco’s Pro Tennis World Court delivers fast-paced two-player tennis action on arcade hardware from 1988. Before each match, players choose between singles or doubles play and then select their athletes from a diverse roster of twenty characters—ten male players, eight female players, and even two robot competitors. The game offers variety with three distinct court environments to choose from: the hard courts of New York City, London’s classic lawn tennis grounds, and the clay surfaces of Paris. Players control their chosen character using an eight-way joystick to position them around their side of the court, utilizing a single button for racket strikes. Matches can be configured as either one or three sets, adding strategic depth to gameplay. Authentic tennis elements like faults, net balls, and deuce points are incorporated—though experienced players can disable the deuce setting in the options menu if preferred. Built on Namco System 1 hardware, Pro Tennis World Court features vibrant graphics and a robust sound system powered by Yamaha and Namco chips, creating an immersive tennis experience for two competitors at a time. The game was first released in Japan and later ported to home consoles including the PC-Engine and TurboGrafx-16.
