Gameplay

Wiz is a cooperative platform and scrolling shooter released in Japan by Seibu Kaihatsu in 1985, also distributed under the same name by Taito. Two players control wizards who must navigate through increasingly challenging environments filled with enemies and obstacles. Utilizing an eight-way joystick and two buttons, players move their characters across the screen, firing projectiles to clear a path forward while avoiding hazards. The gameplay blends precise platforming elements with fast-paced shooting action as players advance through various themed stages. Successful coordination between both wizards is essential for overcoming the game’s trials; working together allows them to reach new areas and confront progressively difficult adversaries. The game’s sound effects and music are delivered by three General Instrument AY8910 chips, powered by Zilog Z80 processors. Wiz was initially released in April of 1985 and later ported to MSX computers.
