Irem • 1984
Also known as: Atomic Boy

Climb a perilous network of pipes in Wily Tower, a cooperative platform game released by Irem in 1984. As two players, you must ascend this complex structure to deactivate power switches controlling a central computer while dodging patrolling robots. The gameplay centers around precise jumping and strategic movement across the lattice-like environment. Players can utilize generators positioned throughout the tower to launch disruptive energy waves, offering a means of neutralizing robotic adversaries. Successfully navigating the shifting platforms and utilizing these disrupters is key to progressing through each level and ultimately reaching the computer core. Wily Tower also went by the alternate name "Atomic Boy." The game’s vibrant visuals utilize a palette of 260 colors within a resolution of 256x224 pixels, creating a distinct aesthetic for its time. Two players control their characters using eight-way joysticks and a single button to jump, adding an extra layer of coordination to the challenge.
