Warlords
Atari • 1980

Warlords pits up to four players against each other in a unique twist on the classic Breakout formula. Each player controls a Warlord defending their castle from attacks launched by computer-controlled Black Knights and opposing players. Using a paddle, you deflect fireballs to destroy the walls of rival castles, while strategically maneuvering your shield to protect your own stronghold. Power Stones allow players to capture and launch these projectiles, adding an element of direct offensive action to the gameplay. The game begins with a countdown sequence featuring a dragon releasing a fireball that initiates the battle. As castles fall, new fireballs appear and Black Knights are replaced by Warlords, escalating the challenge and shifting control dynamically between players. The goal is to be the last castle standing, or in multiplayer configurations, to eliminate all opponents and claim victory. Scoring is based on damaging walls, defeating enemy Warlords, and destroying Black Knights, with bonus points awarded to the player who survives the longest. Available in both upright and cocktail cabinet versions, Warlords offers a competitive and engaging experience for up to four players, blending strategic defense with exciting projectile combat.
