Gameplay

Konami’s Vs. Gradius debuted in arcades late in 1986 as a direct adaptation of the popular Famicom title. Players control a powerful spacecraft and navigate through horizontally scrolling levels, battling waves of enemy ships and formidable bosses. The game features two-player cooperative gameplay, allowing for a shared experience against the escalating alien threat. Gameplay revolves around collecting power-ups to enhance your ship’s weaponry and defensive capabilities, strategically positioning yourself to avoid projectiles and environmental hazards. Distinct from the original Famicom version, Vs. Gradius incorporates new audio cues upon awarding credits and displays a unique ending message following completion. A continue feature also allows players another chance at success after losing all lives. The game’s visuals are presented on a horizontal screen with a resolution of 256 x 240 pixels, utilizing a palette of sixty-four colors. Players utilize an eight-way joystick and two buttons to maneuver their craft and unleash its arsenal in this classic side-scrolling shooter.
