Vindicators (rev 5)

In Vindicators, players take on the role of commanders piloting SR-88 Strategic Battle tanks against an invading force known as the Tangent Empire. This frantic, two-player vertical shooter challenges you to destroy fourteen heavily fortified space stations and ultimately confront their mothership. Fuel is a critical resource; constantly collect canisters scattered throughout each station’s levels to keep your tank operational while battling turrets and armored units protecting the Tangents' defenses. As you clear each station, demolish its control room to scavenge supplies left behind by retreating enemies before proceeding to the next battle. Power-ups are earned as "battle stars" which can be converted into enhanced weaponry during transit between levels. The unique cabinet design resembles a tank itself with tread detailing and distinctive side art depicting scenes from the game. Originally released in 1988, Vindicators was part of an Atari year that also saw the release of Assault, another tank-themed arcade title. A dedicated version of the game features custom controls shaped like tank handles and a limited production run made it a sought-after collectible among arcade enthusiasts.
