Gameplay

Vindicators Part II is a two-player vertical shooter and driving game released by Atari Games in 1988 as a conversion kit for existing Gauntlet arcade machines. Players control vehicles navigating through scrolling environments while battling enemies and collecting power-ups. The gameplay focuses on coordinated action, requiring teamwork to overcome challenges presented across ten of the originally envisioned levels. The game utilizes updated weaponry compared to its predecessor, Vindicators, offering a slightly altered experience for returning players. A notable difference is the absence of contest elements found in previous versions. Technical specifications include Motorola and MOS Technology processors alongside Yamaha, POKEY, and Texas Instruments sound chips delivering the audio. Approximately four hundred conversion kits were distributed, transforming existing Gauntlet cabinets into this unique shooter experience. Designed by Kelly Turner, Norm Avellar, and Russel Dawe, with contributions from Kris Moser and others, Vindicators Part II later appeared as part of the Midway Arcade Origins compilation for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
