Vigilante (World, Rev E)
Irem • 1988

A vigilante’s girlfriend is abducted, and it's up to you – alone or with a second player – to rescue her in this side-scrolling action game from Irem. Players navigate five distinct levels, battling waves of enemies who attack with clubs, chains, knives, and even guns. Each stage culminates in a confrontation with a formidable guardian; defeating these powerful foes quickly is essential as they regenerate health between your attacks. The gameplay builds upon the foundation laid by Irem's earlier Kung-Fu Master, featuring a similar run-and-fight style of action. Occasionally, players can find nunchucks to add extra power to their punches and kicks. The game concludes once Madonna is safely recovered, marking a definitive end to the adventure. Vigilante utilizes Zilog Z80 processors for both its main gameplay and sound functions, complemented by a Yamaha YM2151 chip and DAC for audio output. Control is straightforward, relying on an 8-way joystick and two buttons designated for punch and kick attacks.
