Gameplay

Virtua Fighter Kids delivers accessible fighting action for up to four players. Building upon the foundation of Virtua Fighter 2, this 1996 arcade title reimagines the familiar characters with a charmingly stylized, super-deformed aesthetic. Players select from a cast and engage in one-on-one battles utilizing an eight-way joystick and six buttons to execute punches, kicks, throws, and special moves across vibrant stages. Beyond its adorable character designs, Virtua Fighter Kids retains the core gameplay mechanics of the Virtua Fighter series – strategic positioning, timing, and reading your opponent's movements are key to victory. A unique detail for those observant enough to notice is a product placement; when Jacky wins a match, he’s depicted enjoying a can of "Java Tea." The game runs on Sega’s ST-V hardware and was released in March of 1996. For players seeking alternate character appearances, holding the UP button during character selection will reveal additional costume options. A limited edition soundtrack album accompanied the arcade release later that year.
