Nichibutsu • 1991
Also known as: Mahjong Final Bunny

Nichibutsu’s Mahjong Vanilla Syndrome challenges players to a two-player mahjong match against an unusual opponent – a seductive bunny girl residing within a mystical forest domain. Released in Japan in 1991, this tabletop arcade game presents the classic tile-matching gameplay of mahjong with a distinctive visual style and mature theme. Two players use a dedicated keyboard interface to strategically arrange tiles, aiming to create valid sets and ultimately win the hand against their opponent. The game's technical specifications include dual Zilog Z80 processors for both main gameplay and sound, alongside a Yamaha YM3812 sound chip and digital-to-analog converters to produce its audio. Displayed on a horizontal screen with a resolution of 640x240 pixels and utilizing a palette of 256 colors, Mahjong Vanilla Syndrome offers a vibrant visual experience for players engaging in this strategic tabletop competition. Known also as "Mahjong Final Bunny," the game's development team included programmers Moriaki Hotigai and Kenji Yoshida (composer), alongside a creative group responsible for its graphics and distinctive design. A port of Mahjong Vanilla Syndrome was later released for the NEC PC Engine CD/SCD in 1991, bringing this unique arcade experience to home consoles.
