Gameplay

Players take on the roles of warriors battling through a vertically scrolling landscape in Vandyke, an action game released by UPL in 1990. Two players can simultaneously control their characters, engaging enemies and navigating hazards with an eight-way joystick and two buttons. The gameplay combines elements of fighting games and vertical shooters, requiring strategic movement and attacks to progress through each stage. The game features a distinctive sound design driven by its Yamaha YM2203 sound chip alongside OKI6295 chips, contributing to the overall atmosphere as players confront increasingly challenging foes. Vandyke initially debuted in Japan before being licensed to Jaleco for broader distribution. A very rare Neo-Geo MVS version of the game also exists. The system utilizes a Motorola 68000 processor and runs at 10 MHz, providing a foundation for its visual presentation and gameplay mechanics.
