Valtric
NMK (Jaleco license) • 1986

Valtric is a cooperative vertical shooter released in 1986 by NMK under license from Jaleco. Players pilot spaceships through four distinct stages presented from an overhead perspective, maneuvering in eight directions to dodge obstacles and enemy fire while aiming shots. The ships can drop bombs and collect power-ups to enhance their weaponry; additional firing options can be attached, extending the ship's attack patterns in different directions. Gameplay involves destroying waves of relentlessly respawning enemies—ranging from small hordes to stationary cannons and imposing boss characters—to clear each stage. Strategic use of the ascend button is vital for avoiding danger as players progress through the increasingly challenging levels. Two players can team up, coordinating their ships to tackle the threats ahead. The game’s visuals are presented on a vertical screen with a resolution of 224x256 pixels and utilizes two Yamaha YM2203 sound chips for its audio. Players control their spacecraft using an eight-way joystick and two buttons.
