Puzzle Uo Poko (World)
Cave (Jaleco license) • 1998

Puzzle Uo Poko challenges players to clear screens filled with colorful glass balls in this cooperative puzzle game for two. Using a joystick controlled "plunger," players launch colored balls onto the playfield, aiming to connect three or more of the same color and trigger chain reactions that eliminate them. The further back the plunger is pulled, the greater the distance the ball will travel, requiring careful precision and skill to master. Early levels provide helpful guidelines for aiming, but as you progress, players must rely on their judgment alone. The game features thirty distinct stages, each presenting a new arrangement of balls to clear within a time limit. Bonus points are awarded for speed, however, taking too long results in the bottom of the screen rising and pushing existing balls upwards – reaching the top ends the game. A unique mechanic allows players to activate a laser that destroys bubbles when a submarine appears on-screen by launching a bubble above it. Developed by Cave and licensed from Jaleco, Puzzle Uo Poko combines simple mechanics with increasingly complex level designs for an engaging two-player experience.
