Capcom • 1989
Also known as: Area 88

Take to the skies in U.N. Squadron, a fast-paced horizontal scrolling shooter released by Capcom in 1989. Players control fighter jets as they battle against enemy aircraft and fortifications across various stages. This North American release allows for cooperative play, with two players able to team up and coordinate their attacks against the opposition. The gameplay focuses on precise maneuvering and skillful targeting as you navigate challenging environments filled with relentless waves of enemies. U.N. Squadron utilizes Capcom's CP-S hardware, providing a vibrant visual experience alongside intense action. While this version doesn’t include a special mission featured in its Japanese counterpart, Area 88, it delivers plenty of aerial combat for two players to enjoy. Following its arcade debut, U.N. Squadron found its way onto various home computers and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, bringing the experience to a wider audience. It serves as the first entry in Capcom’s series, followed by Carrier Airwing.
