Ultra X Weapons / Ultra Keibitai
Banpresto / Tsuburaya Productions / Seta • 1995

Take to the skies in Ultra X Weapons (known as Ultra Keibitai in Japan), a cooperative vertical shooter released in 1995. Players control members of a special military unit assisting an Ultraman-like hero against waves of alien invaders, battling through vibrant environments and increasingly challenging enemy formations. Utilizing an eight-way joystick and three buttons to maneuver and fire, two players can team up to defend the planet from impending doom. The game draws its inspiration from the long-running Japanese Ultraman franchise, a series centered around giant heroes fighting otherworldly threats. Expect fast-paced action as you dodge projectiles and deploy special weapons to overcome colossal bosses and protect vital structures. The game runs on Banpresto’s SSV system and features graphics and sound designed by a team including Yasuhiko Kikuchi and Masanao Akahori. A unique version of Ultra X Weapons was distributed for review, suggesting potential differences in gameplay or presentation compared to the widely released public version. Though known primarily in Japan as Ultra Keibitai, it became Ultra X Weapons outside of its homeland—a region change easily adjusted through the game’s settings.
