Ultra Tank — Gameplay
Gameplay

Two players command tanks in Ultra Tank, a two-player shooter released by Kee Games (an Atari subsidiary) in 1978. The gameplay unfolds within maze-like environments composed of blocks that can be open, feature mines, or incorporate barriers—altering the tactical landscape of each match. Players maneuver their tanks using dual joysticks and fire projectiles at one another while simultaneously avoiding hazards like mines to maximize their score. The objective is simple: outscore your opponent before the game timer expires. While bearing similarities to earlier Tank arcade games, Ultra Tank introduces variations in battlefield layout and tank visibility as selectable options, adding a layer of strategic depth. Each player controls their tank independently, seeking to damage the other’s vehicle while preserving their own health and avoiding destruction. Designed by Mike Albaugh, Ultra Tank provides a straightforward yet engaging competitive experience with its simple controls and direct head-to-head gameplay—a classic addition to the Tank series.
