Gameplay

Step into the neon-drenched streets of New York City in Undercover Cops, a fast-paced, side-scrolling beat-'em-up from Irem released in 1992. When Dr. Clayborn seizes control of the city, it’s up to three undercover officers – Bubba, Flame, and Claude – to restore order. Players navigate five distinct stages, battling waves of human thugs alongside bizarre creatures like mole people and jetpack-equipped mutants. Gameplay revolves around classic brawler action: punch, kick, jump, and utilize environmental objects like oil drums and girders to dispatch enemies. Each character possesses a powerful special attack that drains health upon use, encouraging strategic play. Health can be replenished by consuming mice, frogs, birds or snails found throughout the levels. At the end of each stage, players face off against a formidable boss enemy, culminating in a final showdown with Dr. Clayborn himself. A familiar sight awaits at the game's conclusion – a vehicle reminiscent of Irem’s earlier Moon Patrol arcade title.
