Turbo Sub (prototype rev. TSCA)
Entertainment Sciences • 1985

Pilot a futuristic submarine in Turbo Sub, a unique underwater shooter released by Entertainment Sciences in 1985. This single-player game places you in a first-person perspective as you navigate through submerged environments and confront alien invaders that have descended upon the ocean depths. Using controls, you maneuver your vessel while engaging in combat against these extraterrestrial threats. Turbo Sub utilizes a distinctive RIP (Real-Time Image Processor) system to create its 272x272 pixel visuals with a palette of 512 colors. The game is structured around rounds, and offers bonus point opportunities for skillful play, such as destroying all enemy saucers in the initial scene or completing the second round within a time limit. Entertainment Sciences promoted Turbo Sub through competitions offering branded merchandise to participants. Notably, this title represents the second and final arcade release from Entertainment Sciences. While later ported to the Atari Lynx, experiencing it on its original hardware provides a glimpse into an unusual blend of driving and shooting action rarely seen in arcade games of the mid-1980s.
