Gameplay

Navigate winding rivers in Tugboat, an engaging single-player driving game released by Enter-Tech in 1982. As a skilled tugboat captain, your objective is to maneuver through increasingly challenging waterways, collecting buoys scattered along the course. The initial stages feature wider channels where you’ll face a rising number of floating logs that must be carefully avoided. Later levels narrow significantly, demanding precision and quick reflexes as log placement becomes more complex. Each level presents a fresh layout with 28 buoys to collect. Progression involves eight distinct stages; the first four progressively increase in speed and the density of obstructing logs. The final four stages present exceptionally tight passages where a perfect run appears nearly impossible, often requiring players to exploit re-arranged log patterns after collisions. Bonus scoring accumulates throughout gameplay. Tugboat's unique development history involved adapting existing hardware to accommodate its scrolling graphics capabilities, resulting in a compact game experience. Controlling the tugboat with a two-way joystick, players will test their skills against the river’s relentless current and unpredictable obstacles.
