Turkey Shoot (prototype)
Williams • 1984

In Turkey Shoot (prototype), released in 1984 by Williams, players assume the role of a "Turkey Terminator" tasked with eliminating avian adversaries following a global crisis. The year is 1989, and transformed turkeys are causing trouble across urban landscapes. Armed with a laser gun and two additional weapons, the player must complete one hundred missions to eradicate these feathered foes, utilizing a targeting reticle on screen for precision aiming. A unique "gobble" button offers a brief freeze of all enemies, providing tactical opportunities during fast-paced gameplay. Missions vary considerably, ranging from responding to airborne turkey attacks and identifying disguised birds to intercepting escape vehicles. Every eighth round presents a rapid-fire bonus challenge where players score points by quickly eliminating as many turkeys as possible within a short time limit. Additional bonuses are awarded for interacting with environmental elements like fire hydrants and trash cans, or rescuing civilians held hostage by the avian threat. The game allows three "fowl-ups" – occurrences such as escaped turkeys or harm to innocent bystanders—before mission failure. Turkey Shoot is controlled using a lightgun and features three buttons for player input; approximately 450 units of this prototype were produced.
