Triple Hunt
Atari • 1977

Triple Hunt, released by Atari in 1977, offers players a unique arcade experience featuring three distinct shooting games within a single cabinet. The operator could choose to display any of the three games – Bear Hunt, Witch Hunt, or Raccoon Hunt – simply by swapping graphic panels and adjusting a switch on the game’s internal circuit board. Each selection presents a different visual setting and gameplay challenge for the solitary player using a light gun controller. Bear Hunt recreates the familiar classic target shooting experience with animated bears moving through a forest environment. In Witch Hunt, players defend against ghosts appearing in windows and flying bats within a haunted house scene. Raccoon Hunt tasks the player with preventing raccoons from reaching the top of trees as they rapidly climb higher, increasing the difficulty over time. Powered by an M6800 processor, Triple Hunt delivered straightforward shooting action on a horizontal screen displaying 256 x 240 pixels in a palette of eight colors. The game debuted at Atari's distributor meeting in March 1977 and was released to arcades shortly thereafter.
