Gameplay

Thrash Rally puts players behind the wheel in a top-down rally racing game for up to two racers. Before each race, choose from six rally cars, each possessing unique characteristics influencing handling, speed, and durability. Two distinct modes offer varied challenges; the World Rally Championship mode features lap-based circuits where completing each lap within a time limit is essential, while the Paris-to-Dakar Rally presents a point-to-point race against the clock across challenging terrain. The game’s tracks present diverse conditions including snow, gravel, sand, and water, demanding skillful navigation to overcome jumps, chicanes, and trackside obstacles. In addition to rally cars, the Paris-to-Dakar mode unlocks buggies, motorbikes, and trucks for even more varied racing experiences. Thrash Rally runs on SNK’s Neo-Geo MVS hardware, utilizing an 8-way joystick for steering and two buttons for acceleration and braking. Released in November 1991, Thrash Rally also made its way to the Neo-Geo AES home console shortly thereafter, and later appeared on the Neo-Geo CD under a different title.
