Torus
Yun Sung • 1996

Torus presents a unique cooperative puzzle challenge for two players. The objective is to clear colored rings from vertical columns by strategically matching them across all three columns simultaneously. Players manipulate a peg to move rings between columns; they push rings off the bottom of a column onto the peg, then reposition them by pushing them onto other columns. New rings continually drop into the columns from above, creating an ever-shifting puzzle landscape. Success requires careful planning and coordination as filling any one column to its top results in game over. The gameplay combines elements of spatial reasoning with quick reflexes—timing is crucial as players must balance clearing existing rings while managing the incoming flow. Torus draws inspiration from a 1994 PC game of the same name, offering an engaging experience rooted in thoughtful puzzle design. The game utilizes a Zilog Z80 processor and an OKI6295 sound chip to deliver its gameplay, controlled through eight-way joysticks and two buttons for each player.
