Top Speed (World, rev 1)
Taito Corporation Japan • 1987
Also known as: Full Throttle

Taito Corporation’s Top Speed puts players in the driver's seat for a high-octane chase across varied landscapes. Released in 1987 as an export version of the Japanese game Full Throttle, this single-player driving game tasks you with navigating winding roads and dodging obstacles from a rearward perspective. The gameplay focuses on reacting quickly to hazards ahead while maintaining speed, striving to outrun pursuing vehicles. The arcade release was licensed to Romstar for distribution in the United States and other territories. A version of Top Speed gained brief notoriety after appearing in the 1989 film The Wizard, although it was misidentified onscreen. Notably, this export edition omits any territorial notices that might have been present in earlier versions. Following gameplay, a staff roll replaces the original Japanese title’s closing message, simply stating "Top Speed is over!".
