Gameplay

Defend Tokyo from relentless waves of enemy aircraft, tanks, and vessels in this frantic vertical shooter for two players. As pilots of biplanes, you must navigate through a cityscape—or later versions, a dense forest—and strategically utilize different formations to maximize your firepower. Players can switch between a "Line" formation that offers broad attack coverage but limited shot area; a “Delta” formation suited for aerial targets; and a "Crux" formation designed to eliminate ground-based threats. A unique mechanic allows players to release kamikaze pilots by pressing both buttons simultaneously, providing a temporary shield against enemy attacks. The game's persistent action means there is no defined ending—the challenge continues indefinitely as you strive for the highest score. Originally released in Japan as Tokio, and later in English-speaking regions as the slightly misspelled Scramble Formation, this 1986 title features a distinctive soundtrack and ASCII exclamation marks for its projectile effects.
