Toki is a cooperative platform and shooter scrolling game released in 1989 by TAD Corporation. Two players control primate characters as they navigate through prehistoric environments battling various creatures. Players move their characters across the screen, jumping between platforms while firing projectiles to defeat enemies and progress through each level. This version of the game was originally exported from Japan and renamed; it’s title honors the son of TAD's owner. The American release, which debuted in February 1990, included a unique attract mode screen promoting anti-drug awareness. Approximately 1600 printed circuit boards were distributed for this version. Ports of Toki appeared on several home consoles and computers shortly thereafter, including the Nintendo NES and Sega Mega Drive. While initially released as an export title, it's important to note that the original Japanese release is known as JuJu Densetsu and contains further details about the game’s story and design. An unreleased prototype version was also developed for the Atari 7800 console.
