Gameplay

Embark on a perilous journey through time in Time Traveler, a 1991 platformer from Virtual Image Productions under license from Sega. As Marshall Gram, you must rescue Princess Kyi-La from the clutches of the villainous Vulcor by traversing diverse historical periods, battling foes ranging from cavemen to futuristic robots. The game progresses as you run and jump across vividly rendered backgrounds filmed with Hollywood actors and impressive special effects, creating a cinematic arcade experience unlike any other. A unique feature of Time Traveler is its use of a specialized Sega hologram theater cabinet; the concave mirror creates the illusion of floating images, adding to the immersive presentation. Players are given one Time Reversal Cube at the start of the game, allowing for a single “do-over” should Marshall Gram meet his demise – otherwise, lives are lost and progress is reset. Additional cubes can be purchased from The Trader, but there's a limit to how many you can acquire per game. Controlling Marshall Gram with an eight-way joystick and two buttons—one for shooting and one for activating the Time Reversal Cube—players will encounter a variety of challenges as they attempt to thwart Vulcor’s plans and restore balance to the timeline.
