The Hand — Gameplay
Gameplay

Navigate intricate mazes in The Hand, a cooperative maze and collection game for two players released by T.I.C. in 1981. Each player controls a disembodied hand capable of assuming one of three forms: Rock, Paper, or Scissors. The objective is to collect scattered dots within each level to advance, but beware – other hands patrol the maze, acting as opponents. Combat isn’t about brute force; it's a game of strategy based on the classic Rock-Paper-Scissors ruleset. Successfully choosing the correct hand type to defeat an enemy scores points and removes them from play. A tie results in both hands passing through each other, while selecting a losing hand forfeits your turn. The vertical screen displays a limited color palette as you maneuver your hand through increasingly challenging layouts. This unique arcade experience offers a refreshing twist on the maze genre with its competitive yet cooperative gameplay for two players, controlled via a four-way joystick and three buttons. Later re-released under the name "Got-Ya" by Game-A-Tron, The Hand provides a simple but engaging challenge based entirely on recognizing patterns and anticipating your opponent’s moves.
