Gameplay

Task Force Harrier puts two players in control of advanced Harrier jump jets battling through enemy airspace. Released in 1989 by UPL, this vertical scrolling shooter challenges players to navigate dangerous environments while engaging waves of hostile aircraft and ground defenses. Using an eight-way joystick and three buttons, players maneuver their Harriers, firing weapons to destroy targets and progress through increasingly difficult levels. The game’s technical specifications include a Motorola 68000 main CPU paired with a Zilog Z80 for sound generation, enhanced by multiple sound chips contributing to the audio experience. Licensed to American Sammy for distribution in the United States, Task Force Harrier offered a cooperative aerial combat experience for two players simultaneously. A limited-edition soundtrack album was released shortly after the game’s debut. Players will face relentless opposition as they work together to overcome obstacles and achieve objectives within this fast-paced flying shooter.
