Gameplay

Tetris Plus is a two-player puzzle game released in 1995 by Jaleco, developed in collaboration with BPS. Players manipulate falling Tetriminos—geometric shapes composed of four blocks—rotating and positioning them to create complete horizontal lines. Successfully clearing lines causes them to disappear, preventing the stack from reaching the top of the playfield. The gameplay introduces variations on the classic formula, offering a fresh take on the established block-dropping mechanics. The game utilizes Jaleco’s Mega System 32 hardware and features cooperative or competitive modes for two players. Controls are simple, relying on an eight-way joystick to move pieces and buttons to rotate them. A secret code can unlock an Expert Level within Puzzle Mode, providing a more challenging experience for seasoned Tetris enthusiasts. Following its arcade debut, Tetris Plus spawned a sequel in 1997 and was subsequently ported to several home consoles including the Nintendo Game Boy, Sony PlayStation, and Sega Saturn in Japan and Europe. The game’s development team included designer Tarou Sasahara along with programmers Rerorero and -M-, and featured contributions from multiple artists and sound designers.
