Techno Drive (Japan, TH1/VER.B)
Namco • 1998

Techno Drive is a two-player futuristic racing game released by Namco in 1998. Players take control of high-tech vehicles and navigate psychedelic courses designed to test driving skill. The gameplay revolves around completing fifteen distinct driving challenges that appear on screen, ranging from quick reflexes to precise cornering and drifting techniques. Success or failure on each set of three tests determines progression through the game. The racing action emphasizes speed and vehicle control while avoiding obstacles and clearing ramps. Players use a steering wheel and pedals to accelerate and brake, aiming to master each challenge and advance further into the futuristic environment. Techno Drive debuted at the 1998 AOU Amusement Expo in Japan. Utilizing Namco’s System 12 hardware, the game features a driving-focused experience backed by an electronic soundtrack. Digital soundtracks promoting the game were also released in Japan shortly after its initial appearance.
