Tao Taido is a two-player fighting game released in 1993 by Video System Co. Players select from a roster of eight characters and engage in one-on-one battles using an eight-way joystick and just two buttons for controls. The gameplay emphasizes straightforward combat, allowing players to face off against each other or team up cooperatively. The game’s simple design belies its technical underpinnings, utilizing a Motorola 68000 processor alongside a Zilog Z80 sound chip and Yamaha YM2610 audio hardware. A notable feature is the appearance of Malcolm, a character previously seen in “Aero Fighters 3,” as one of Tao Taido’s selectable fighters. Later revisions of the game introduced improvements to cooperative play; newer versions allow two players to experience the game using only a single credit, a change not available with earlier releases.
