Tang Tang (ver. 0526, 26/05/2000, set 1)
ESD • 2000

Tang Tang is a cooperative platform game for two players released in 2000 by ESD. Players control characters equipped with magical wands that allow them to manipulate the environment. The core gameplay revolves around strategically destroying and creating blocks to navigate levels, using the wand to break platforms directly above their heads by repeatedly jumping onto them. Successful navigation requires teamwork as players must collect scattered circle and diamond items within each screen before a door appears, allowing progression to the next challenge. Drawing inspiration from earlier platform titles like Solomon’s Key, Tang Tang blends action with puzzle elements, demanding both skillful jumping and clever use of the wand's abilities. The game utilizes a Motorola 68000 processor for its main functions alongside a Zilog Z80, accompanied by YM3812 and OKI6295 sound chips to produce audio. Controls are straightforward, employing an eight-way joystick and two buttons for movement and wand activation. A Game Boy Advance port of Tang Tang followed in 2001, bringing the platforming experience to a handheld format. The game was produced by James Park and features design contributions from Min Gun Seo and others at ESD, with music provided by Music Story.
