Alpha Denshi Co. (Volt Electronics license) • 1982

In Talbot, released in 1982 by Alpha Denshi under license from Volt Electronics, players take on the role of a rabbit breeder tasked with retrieving escaped rabbits within an ever-changing maze. Two players cooperate to navigate the field alongside their loyal hunting dogs, attempting to corral the rabbits back into cages and advance through increasingly complex levels. Adding challenge are thieves sporting sunglasses who try to steal your rabbits while you avoid their attacks – a race against time where success depends on quick reflexes and strategic cooperation. Gameplay involves collecting scattered food like milk to replenish energy, strategically deploying traps to hinder the thieves and capture elusive rabbits, and directing your canine companion to assist in the pursuit. The game's score is determined by the number of rabbits successfully returned; if the thieves manage to abscond with more rabbits than are recovered, the players lose. Talbot features a Zilog Z80 processor for its gameplay, alongside an AY8910 sound chip that provides audio feedback during frantic chases. The title references the now-extinct talbot breed of hunting dog, historically known for its role in heraldry and believed to be an ancestor of modern breeds like the beagle and bloodhound. Talbot offers a unique blend of maze navigation, collection mechanics, and cooperative gameplay for two players.
