Gameplay

In Surprise Attack, two players take on the roles of Special Forces agents tasked with infiltrating a hostile moon base and space station in the year 2031 to disarm time bombs before they can reach Earth. This Konami title blends platforming action with scrolling shooter elements, initially presenting familiar gameplay reminiscent of series like Rolling Thunder and Shinobi. As you progress deeper into the facility, however, a unique gravity mechanic emerges, allowing enemies and players alike to traverse ceilings and vertical surfaces by strategically jumping. Players can collect power-ups during their mission, including a "Grenade Disk" that boosts firepower and “Mover Fuel” which grants temporary invincibility and freedom from gravitational constraints for quick navigation. The game features seven distinct stages, each culminating in a boss encounter followed by a science and science fiction quiz – failing more than two questions results in a point penalty. Surprise Attack offers cooperative gameplay with an 8-way joystick and simple button controls, providing a challenging and strategically engaging experience for up to two players.
