Strategy X
Konami • 1981

Strategy X tasks players with piloting a tank through four increasingly challenging attack levels and ultimately destroying the enemy base. As a commander, you must navigate rough terrain while fending off rotating cannons, jeeps, and tanks, all while managing your fuel supply to avoid being stranded. Brick walls can be destroyed to create pathways, and strategically placed TNT offers powerful but risky area-of-effect explosions. The game’s structure involves advancing through distinct stages: defending against rotating cannons, dodging attacking vehicles, facing off against enemy tanks, and then a final assault on the base itself. Within the base, players must destroy bricks, avoid colored bombs and returning cannons while seeking out an octagonal mine to complete the level. The gameplay demands careful turret rotation to target enemies hidden behind walls and awareness of the environment to avoid mines and other hazards. Two players can alternate control in this vertical-scrolling shooter. Points are awarded for destroying enemy units and refueling, with a substantial bonus given for destroying the final objective—the formidable “Emmortalian”—at the heart of the base. Extra lives are earned at specific point thresholds, providing opportunities to continue your advance through the warzone.
