Gameplay

Star Guards is a cooperative shooter released by Bally Midway in 1987 for up to three players. In this field-style game, players control space marines tasked with defending a central base from waves of approaching alien invaders. Using double eight-way joysticks, each player maneuvers their character across the screen, firing weapons to eliminate enemies and prevent them from reaching the stationary defense platform. The game utilizes a palette of sixty-four colors within its 512x480 pixel resolution, creating a vibrant visual experience as players coordinate their attacks. A Zilog Z80 processor handles gameplay operations while a Motorola 68000 manages sound effects and music. Programmed by Edward March Jr., Star Guards offers a challenging cooperative experience that requires teamwork to overcome the alien onslaught.
