Scramble Spirits (World, Floppy Based)
Sega • 1988

A sudden attack throws Earth into crisis in Sega’s 1988 shooter, Scramble Spirits. Players take control of flying units and work cooperatively to fend off waves of enemies descending from above. Utilizing an eight-way joystick for precise movement, two players must navigate increasingly challenging levels while battling the mysterious forces that have invaded. The game runs on Sega’s System 24 hardware and uses floppy disks for its program data. Scramble Spirits presents a vertical scrolling perspective, tasking players with dodging projectiles and destroying enemy formations to survive. The narrative hints at a past mistake by humanity and subsequent global rehabilitation before the current conflict began. Released in Japan during September of 1988, Scramble Spirits features graphics work by Ojisama, Panda, and Nosa, while programming was handled by Night Emperor, Mam, and Issei Kun, with sound design from Professor Tohru and Yatchan. Ports of the game later appeared on various home computers including the Commodore 64 and Amiga.
