Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (World 931005)
Capcom • 1993
Also known as: Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle

Capcom’s Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers arrived in arcades in 1993 as an evolution of their immensely popular fighting game franchise. Two players select from a roster of eight fighters – including fan favorites Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Guile – to battle across varied stages using a combination of punches, kicks, throws, and special moves. The gameplay emphasizes quick reflexes and strategic use of character abilities to outmaneuver opponents. This export version features some localization adjustments compared to the original Japanese release; notably, changes were made to certain ending sequences for characters like Cammy and Fei-Long, altering their narrative context. Additionally, voice samples for Cammy and Dee Jay were modified, resulting in different attack callouts than those heard in the earlier Japanese iteration. Running on Capcom's CPS-II hardware, Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers subsequently found its way to various home consoles including SNES and Sega Genesis, further expanding its reach beyond the arcade environment. Later revisions of the game, such as the World release dated September 1993, refined the gameplay experience.
