Super Real Mahjong Part 2 (Japan)
Seta • 1987

Challenge your skills in Seta’s 1987 arcade game, Super Real Mahjong Part 2, a unique take on the classic tabletop strategy game. Two players face off against each other using a specialized keyboard to build hands and strategically claim tiles from a communal wall. This installment introduces strip sequences as a gameplay element, accompanied by detailed hand-drawn animation for the opponent character. The game begins with a distinct visual flair, setting the stage for an engaging match. Winning hands rewards the player while simultaneously revealing more of their animated opponent’s attire; conversely, losing hands will have her re-dress. Gameplay continues until one player exhausts their betting funds. Super Real Mahjong Part 2 represents an early example of animation within arcade games and is exclusive to Japanese arcades. It's the second entry in a series that would see several further installments, each building upon the foundations laid here.
