Super Qix (World/Japan, V1.2)
Kaneko / Taito • 1987

In Super Qix, two players compete to draw lines across the screen and claim territory while avoiding being touched by the opposing player’s line or a pursuing enemy sprite. Using a simple joystick and button control, players trace outlines on the playfield; once an area is fully enclosed, it becomes theirs. The goal is to capture more land than your opponent, all while strategically preventing them from doing the same. This 1987 title builds upon the original Qix formula with updated graphics and gameplay mechanics. Players can also utilize power-ups that temporarily freeze their rival or provide other advantages in this fast-paced puzzle game. Achieving a high score requires both skillful line drawing and clever defensive maneuvers. A unique attract mode challenge encourages players to cover at least 98% of the screen, rewarding them with an extra credit if successful—a testament to the potential for strategic mastery within Super Qix. The game is part of the long-running Qix series, a lineage that began in 1981 and continues to evolve.
