Sprint 8
Atari • 1977

Sprint 8 drops players into a chaotic eight-car race across intricate track designs. Viewed from above, your goal is to lap as many times as possible and achieve top speed while navigating alongside seven computer-controlled opponents. Each car features subtle visual differences, demanding constant attention to avoid collisions within the crowded field. A new braking mechanic distinguishes this installment from earlier games in the Sprint series, adding another layer of challenge to the gameplay. The game offers multiple track options selectable at the start, and utilizes a simple black-and-white graphics system with shades of gray to convey movement and track layout. Scoring well – exceeding 250 points – extends your playtime for an additional thirty seconds and earns you a performance rating ranging from “Granny” to "Pro." Sprint 8’s unique design features a massive, standing cocktail table cabinet accommodating up to eight players simultaneously, each with their own steering wheel, pedals, shifter, and controls. This configuration allows for intense head-to-head racing experiences rarely seen in other arcade titles.
