Sprint 1
Atari (Kee Games) • 1978
Also known as: Sprint 2

Sprint 1 challenges players to navigate a looping race track in a top-down perspective, striving for speed and endurance. As the lone driver controlling a white car, you compete against three computer-controlled opponents – a black car and two grey cars that move automatically. The objective is simple: complete as many laps as possible within the allotted time while maintaining high velocity to earn a rating of Rookie or Pro—a score exceeding 250 points extends play by an additional thirty seconds. A key feature of Sprint 1 distinguishes it from its predecessor, "Sprint 2," with tracks changing dynamically during gameplay itself. Players don't select their course; instead, they adapt to the randomly generated track layouts as they race. The game’s graphics utilize a simple palette of black and white with two shades of gray to represent the cars and track elements. Released in 1978 by Kee Games under the Atari banner, Sprint 1 is controlled via a steering wheel, pedal, and four-position shifter. Available initially in a basic woodgrain cabinet—a rarer version featuring side art also existed—the game represents an offering from Atari intended to fill a space within their arcade lineup.
